3/4 c. sugar
4 1/2 Tbsp. cornstarch
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp. ground cloves
3 to 3 1/4 lbs. large Granny Smith apples,
about 6 peeled, quartered, cored, sliced
3/4 C. dried tart cherries
1/4 C. cherry preserves
1 C. oatmeal (not instant)
1/2 t. cinnamon
1/2 C. margarine
1 C. brown sugar
Position rack in lowest third of oven and preheat to 400° F.
Stir first 4 ingredients in a large bowl. Mix in apples, dried
cherries and preserves. Pour mixture into baking pan and
set aside. Combine brown sugar, cinnamon and oatmeal in
a bowl. Cut in margarine until mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle
over apple/cherry mixture. Bake in preheated oven for
about 45 minutes or until apples are tender and topping
looks crunchy. This is great when still warm with vanilla
ice cream!
