Clearwater, Fla., –
Advantica EyeCare, a Clearwater, Fla.-based vision plan company, is
adding to its benefits plans with coverage of photochromic lenses
(lenses that change in sunlight) and progressive lenses in all of
its vision plans. Beginning in July 2007, plan members can purchase
photochromic lenses – including the leading brand, Transitions®
lenses – at a substantial savings.
“This plan enhancement is a
great value for our subscribers,” said Richard Sanchez, CEO,
president, Advantica EyeCare. “Our members can take advantage of
the benefits of UV protection and glare reduction, which contribute
to reduced eye strain and fatigue, and help preserve the health of
the eye,” he added.
The addition of photochromics
and progressive coverage is one in a series of steps that Advantica
has been taking to create programs that reflect an increasing
acknowledgement within the eyecare community of the value of premium
lens options to enhance and protect vision. Advantica EyeCare
provides a range of vision benefits, presently to over one million
members in mid-Atlantic states and Florida, through a network of
7,000 eye care professionals.

“Vision
plans are a cost-effective way for employers to provide or
contribute to preventative-type employee benefits,” said
Sanchez. “These kinds of benefits are a growing segment, not
only because they are perceived as a value by employees, but
also because they play a role in productivity and overall
health,” he added. |
Transitions lenses – the
#1-recommended photochromic lenses by eyecare professionals
worldwide – block 100 percent of UVA and UVB rays, and
automatically adjust from clear to dark in proportion to the
intensity of ultraviolet (UV) light. Photochromic lenses reduce
glare for increased visual contrast and comfort, and provide
protection from harmful UV light, which has been linked to several
leading causes of preventable blindness. All Advantica vision plans
cover a comprehensive eye exam for detection of ocular diseases.
Plans include an annual eye exam, eyeglasses, mail order contact
lenses and LASIK surgery.
“We’re excited by
Advantica’s effort to make Transitions lenses more accessible to
its members,” said Pat Huot, national account executive, managed
care, Transitions Optical, Inc. “Because Transitions lenses can
help patients enhance their everyday vision and preserve long-term
healthy sight, making it easier to purchase them will be a strong
benefit to employers and employees alike.”
